Her work with the National Film Board of Canada began with her participation in the seventh edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/?s=hothouse\">Hothouse<\/a> apprenticeship scheme, for which she made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfb.ca\/film\/hothouse_7_kiss\/\"><em>The Kiss<\/em><\/a> (2011). Since then she has created the micro-short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfb.ca\/film\/naked_island_survival_of_the_fittest\/\"><em>Survival of the Fittest<\/em><\/a> (originally produced in 2014 and released this year as part of the NFB\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/naked-island\/\"><em>Naked Island<\/em><\/a> series) with <em>Hedgehog&#8217;s Home<\/em>, a stop-motion adaptation of Branko \u0106opi\u0107\u2019s classic children\u2019s book, being her most ambitious film project to date. Having premiered in February at the prestigious Berlinale festival, the film is presently screening at <a href=\"http:\/\/animafest.hr\/en\/2017\/film\/read\/hedgehog_s_home\">Animafest Zagreb<\/a> with upcoming selections including next week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.annecy.org\/programme\/index:film-20172378\">Annecy festival<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.animamundi.com.br\/\">Anima Mundi<\/a> in July.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hedgehog&#039;s Home\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/305564592?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Produced by Jelena Popovi\u0107 of the NFB and Vanja Andrijevi\u0107 of Bonobostudio, the film interweaves Eva\u2019s distinct directorial approach with exquisite animation by Ivana Bo\u0161njak and Thomas Johnson, set to a compelling score by Croatian musician Darko Rundek.\u00a0 With Eva\u2019s films often emphasizing character and environments, the lush, needle-felted world of Hedgehog\u2019s Home and its attention to detail in terms of the subtlety and nuance of the character performance has proved a perfect fit for this emerging director\u2019s style.<\/p>\n<p>Also discussed in this episode: Annecy anticipation, the quasi-controversy of <em>Red Shoes<\/em>, <em>Emoji Movie<\/em> emoting and the gloriously dubious VFX of <em>Twin Peaks<\/em>. Alongside his work in animation production he is an active writer and researcher on the industry through such avenues as the leading UK animation resource Skwigly, for which he is Editor in Chief, and his books 'Independent Animation: Developing, Producing and Distributing Your Animated Films' (2016, second edition published April 2023) and 'Intimate Animation' (2025, co-written with Dr. Laura-Beth Cowley). As an educator he has lectured and tutored at AUB Bournemouth, University of the West of England, University of Gloucestershire and UAL Central Saint Martins. As an independent director he has produced six multi-award-winning short animated films that have been showcased at over 200 international film and animation festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, BFI London Film Festival, ITFS Stuttgart, Encounters, London International Animation Festival, Pictoplasma, London Short Film Festival and Anima Mundi. Alongside his work in animation production he is an active writer and researcher on the industry through such avenues as the leading UK animation resource Skwigly, for which he is Editor in Chief, and his books 'Independent Animation: Developing, Producing and Distributing Your Animated Films' (2016, second edition published April 2023) and 'Intimate Animation' (2025, co-written with Dr. Laura-Beth Cowley). As an educator he has lectured and tutored at AUB Bournemouth, University of the West of England, University of Gloucestershire and UAL Central Saint Martins.
