{"id":33336,"date":"2018-06-07T07:19:46","date_gmt":"2018-06-07T07:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/?p=33336"},"modified":"2019-08-09T20:26:23","modified_gmt":"2019-08-09T20:26:23","slug":"podcast-snowden-fine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/podcast-snowden-fine\/","title":{"rendered":"Podcast interview with Alison Snowden and David Fine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.soundcloud.com\/stream\/454846152-skwigly-skwigly-podcast-81.mp3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-33337 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/ep81-400x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a>For our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/podcasts\/skwigly-animation-podcast-81\/\">eighty-first episode<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/podcast_type\/skwigly-podcast\/\">Skwigly Animation Podcast<\/a> we are thrilled to welcome Alison Snowden and David Fine of <a href=\"http:\/\/snowdenfine.com\/\">Snowden Fine Animation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having met at the NFTS, the pair created the Oscar\u00ae-nominated short film <a href=\"http:\/\/snowdenfine.com\/secondclassmail\"><em>Second Class Mail<\/em><\/a>, going on to work with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nfb.ca\/\">National Film Board of Canada<\/a> for their short <a href=\"http:\/\/snowdenfine.com\/georgeandrosemary\/\"><em>George and Rosemary<\/em><\/a> and the Oscar\u00ae-winning <em>Bob\u2019s Birthday<\/em> that later inspired the hit adult animated sitcom <a href=\"http:\/\/snowdenfine.com\/bobandmargaret\/\"><em>Bob and Margaret<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nfb.ca\/film\/bobs_birthday\/embed\/player\/\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Having since worked on popular IPs including <em>Peppa Pig<\/em> and <em>Shaun the Sheep<\/em> as well as developing their own series <em><a href=\"http:\/\/snowdenfine.com\/rickysprocket\/\">Ricky Sprocket: Showbiz Boy<\/a><\/em>, Alison and David have teamed up again with the NFB for their latest film <em>Animal Behaviour<\/em>, their first new short film in over twenty years.<\/p>\n<p>Depicting a group therapy session of five animals led by a canine therapist, the film is produced by the NFB\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/producing-animation-michael-fukushima\/\">Michael Fukushima<\/a> and will be taking major festivals by storm in the coming weeks, with official selections at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animafest.hr\/hr\/2018\/film\/read\/animal_behaviour\">Animafest Zagreb<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.annecy.org\/programme\/index:film-20181578\">Annecy International Animated Film Festival<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edfilmfest.org.uk\/2018\/animal-behaviour\">Edinburgh International Film Festival<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animamundi.com.br\/en\/selected-films-2018\/\">Anima Mundi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The group includes Lorraine, a leech who suffers from separation anxiety; Cheryl, a praying mantis who can\u2019t seem to keep a man; Todd, a pig with an eating disorder; Jeffrey, a bird with guilt issues; and Linda, an obsessive-compulsive cat.<\/p>\n<p>But this week\u2019s session proves to be a challenge for the group when they\u2019re joined by a reluctant new member: Victor, an ape with anger-management issues. As we watch him navigate his first session, we learn about each animal\u2019s issues and how they\u2019re trying to deal with them, but Victor just doesn\u2019t get it. He sees the group as a bunch of self-obsessed navel gazers.<\/p>\n<p>This hilarious yet emotional short deals with animal issues that are not unlike our own. As an educator he has lectured and tutored at AUB Bournemouth, University of the West of England, University of Gloucestershire and UAL Central Saint Martins. As an independent director he has produced six multi-award-winning short animated films that have been showcased at over 200 international film and animation festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, BFI London Film Festival, ITFS Stuttgart, Encounters, London International Animation Festival, Pictoplasma, London Short Film Festival and Anima Mundi. Alongside his work in animation production he is an active writer and researcher on the industry through such avenues as the leading UK animation resource Skwigly, for which he is Editor in Chief, and his books 'Independent Animation: Developing, Producing and Distributing Your Animated Films' (2016, second edition published April 2023) and 'Intimate Animation' (2025, co-written with Dr. Laura-Beth Cowley). As an educator he has lectured and tutored at AUB Bournemouth, University of the West of England, University of Gloucestershire and UAL Central Saint Martins.
