It is heavily industrialised but surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire landscape. I think this experience had to do with making This is Not Real. When developing the script I looked at photographs I took there and also other narratives I liked, such as Ken Loach&#8217;s Kes and Schlesinger&#8217;s Billy Liar (there is even a still from Billy Liar there if you look closely!).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4440 aligncenter\" title=\"Charley_development\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Charley_development-380x285.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" \/>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4439 aligncenter\" title=\"Charley_character\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Charley_character-380x475.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"266\" \/>\n<p><strong>Your work has some similarities to David O&#8217;Reilly&#8217;s work. Was this\u00a0intentional?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Uh..oh&#8230; Yes and no. The look is surely more similar to David O&#8217;Reilly&#8217;s work than I would have liked it to be. If I was to do it again, I would draw a bigger contrast. \u00a0However, the choice of style and look was always a conscious decision to reinforce the protagonist&#8217;s world, that stripped down digital look felt appropriate. \u00a0As it happens, David O&#8217;Reilly is very good at giving you just that. \u00a0Also cutting rendering out from the workflow enabled me to deliver a 7 minutes long computer animated film.<\/p>\n<p>In the end I don&#8217;t mind think I mind the comparison.. I always had a grudge against polished CGI.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4444 aligncenter\" title=\"TINR_02_lowres\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/TINR_02_lowres-620x348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"348\" \/>\n<p><strong>How long did it take to create?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Around 9 months all in all.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What software did you use to create it? Describe the process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It was all animated in Softimage, and composited in After Effects.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>How many people were involved in the project?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There were many great people at the Royal College of Art who provided valuable feedback throughout the making of the film. \u00a0I also had the luck of having a talented and enthusiastic sound designer working with me, and a few people helping me with the animation (thanks Eamonn, Vincent, Ben!).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4446 aligncenter\" title=\"TINR_04_lowres\" src=\"https:\/\/www.skwigly.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/TINR_04_lowres-620x348.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"348\" \/>\n<p><strong>Has it won any awards?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Best Sound Design &#8211; British Student Film Festival, 201<\/li>\n<li>Paul Berry Animation Award &#8211; Exposures, 2012<\/li>\n<li>Best Animated Film &#8211; Norwich Film Festival, 2012<\/li>\n<li>Animation Runner-Up &#8211; Anchorage Film Festival, 2011<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What are your next plans?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I&#8217;m currently working on another short film due to be finished this November this year with Beakus.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can you describe your short and what is it about?
