The event that drew them to the city was VIEW Conference 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating 25 years of success, VIEW Conference 2025 attracted 6,511 attendees from 57 countries. Its carefully curated program of sessions boasted over 150 speakers \u2013 a 25% increase on last year\u2019s event \u2013 who delivered 76 talks, 22 in-depth workshops, 14 panels, and nine masterclasses, plus portfolio reviews, screenings, keynotes and more, all designed to inform, educate and inspire the conference\u2019s international audience.<\/p>\n<p>Between sessions, visitors seized the opportunity to explore Italy\u2019s scenic Piedmont Region, the only place in the world where the coveted white truffle can be found, and home to some of the country\u2019s great red wines. Turin itself is filled with tourist attractions including the city\u2019s world-famous Egyptian Museum, which houses the biggest collection of Ancient Egyptian art outside of Cairo.<\/p>\n<p>The main VIEW Conference 2025 program took place in the spectacular Officine Grandi Riparazioni (OGR), where the legendary VIEW Conference vibe generated its customary energetic and inclusive atmosphere. Two full days of workshops took place on the Turin campus of the ITS ICT Piemonte technical academy.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, VIEW Conference 2025, in partnership with Museo del Cinema di Torino, presented two special movie screenings at Turin\u2019s historic Cinema Massimo. A singalong screening of \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d the hit musical animated feature from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, was introduced in person by its two directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Also shown was Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation\u2019s live-action \u201cHow to Train Your Dragon,\u201d with a live introduction by the film\u2019s VFX supervisor Christian M\u00e4nz and animation supervisor Glen McIntosh.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat makes VIEW Conference so successful year after year is the people,\u201d says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. \u201cOur incredible speakers, who give so generously of their time, their wisdom, and their experience. Best of all are the breathtaking presentations into which our speakers pour their hearts and souls, showing us their deepest humanity and the immense passion they have for their art.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leading the field of award-winning creatives at VIEW Conference 2025 was Oscar\u00ae-winner Doug Chiang, senior vice president and executive design director at Lucasfilm, who collected this year\u2019s coveted VIEW Visionary Award. Previous recipients of the award, presented for outstanding contribution to the visual arts, include Oscar-nominated president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation Ramsey Naito, Oscar-winning cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins, pioneering visual effects supervisor and Oscar\u00ae-winner Dennis Muren, Oscar-nominated animated feature director Nora Twomey and Oscar-winning Pixar designer\/director Ralph Eggleston. Chiang also delivered the conference\u2019s closing keynote \u201cA Life in Film Design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matt Buehler, founder and CTO of 3D content specialists vrbn, presented an enthralling keynote entitled \u201cThe Purposes of Creativity &amp; Art.\u201d Shane Valdez, founder and CEO of Superfile, discussed the importance of digital security in a world dependent on global collaboration. The latest applications of AI were discussed by Rick Champagne, director of Global Media2 Strategy and Marketing at NVIDIA and Ian Massingham, head of developer relations at Griptape. John Canning, head of developer relations M&amp;E, AEC, D&amp;M, AMD, explored the impact of the latest technology and tools for small teams.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the directors of \u201cKPop Demon Hunters,\u201d VIEW Conference 2025 also welcomed film directors Madeline Sharafian and Academy Award\u00ae-winner Domee Shi (Disney and Pixar\u2019s \u201cElio\u201d), Alessandro Carloni (Warner Bros. Pictures Animation\u2019s upcoming \u201cThe Cat in the Hat,\u201d due for release in theaters February 27, 2026) and Annie Award-winner Pierre Perifel (DreamWorks Animation\u2019s \u201cThe Bad Guys 2\u201d). Director Alex Woo took the stage with VFX supervisor Nicky Lavender and head of character animation Sacha Kapijimpanga to speak about Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation\u2019s \u201cIn Your Dreams\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>VIEW Conference 2025 offered a sneak peek at some of this year\u2019s most anticipated movies. In a specially recorded video interview, Oscar-nominated cinematographer Dan Laustsen ASC, DFF, talked in depth about lensing Netflix\u2019s new adaptation of \u201cFrankenstein,\u201d written and directed by his long-time collaborator Guillermo del Toro. Production designer Dylan Cole transported the VIEW Conference to the exotic world of Pandora, sharing futuristic visions from the upcoming \u201cAvatar: Fire and Ash.\u201d Meanwhile, in his presentation \u201cTo Infinity\u2026 and RenderMan XPU!\u201d Pixar\u2019s Dylan Sisson presented exclusive footage from Disney and Pixar\u2019s \u201cToy Story 5,\u201d out June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Award-winning VFX maestros explored the fast-evolving world of visual effects. In a special fireside chat, Janet Lewin, senior vice president, general manager and head of Industrial Light &amp; Magic (ILM), discussed her 30-year career at the cutting edge of visual effects and virtual production. From the world of big-screen features came Oscar-nominated Pablo Helman and Framestore\u2019s Dale Newton (Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cWicked\u201d and \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d), David Seager (Disney\u2019s \u201cTRON: Ares\u201d), BAFTA Award-winner David Vickery (Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cJurassic World: Rebirth\u201d), Craig Hammack (Disney\u2019s live-action \u201cLilo &amp; Stitch\u201d), Oscar-nominated Ryan Tudhope (Apple\u2019s \u201cF1: The Movie\u201d), Stephane Naz\u00e9 (DC Studios\u2019 \u201cSuperman\u201d) and Michael Ralla (Warner Bros\u2019 \u201cSinners\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Also in the spotlight were the VFX for a range of episodic series including HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Penguin\u201d (with Johnny Han, Goran Pavles and Eugene Bondar), Apple TV\u2019s \u201cThe Studio\u201d (with Sandro Blattner and Wylie Co. VFX\u2019s Jake Maymudes), Netflix\u2019s \u201cWednesday\u201d (with Rocket Science VFX\u2019s Jethro Au and Kevin Buessecker), Netflix\u2019s \u201cThe Sandman\u201d (with Rodeo FX\u2019s Martin Pelletier), HBO\u2019s \u201cDune: Prophecy\u201d (with Accenture Song VFX\u2019s Apollonia Hartman and David Anastacio), Amazon Studios\u2019 \u201cThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power\u201d (with Rodeo FX\u2019s Ara Khanikian), HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Last of Us\u201d (with DNEG\u2019s Melaina Mace and Roberto Rodricks), and HBO\u2019s \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d (with Pixomondo\u2019s Claudia Marvisi).<\/p>\n<p>Twice Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Ian Hunter discussed not only his work on Marvel Studios\u2019 \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps,\u201d but also his remarkable career creating miniature effects for award-winning films including \u201cInterstellar\u201d and \u201cFirst Man.\u201d Meanwhile miniature unit supervisor and props designer Simon Weisse looked back at his 30-year career, including his extraordinary work with acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>From the realm of games, Sucker Punch Productions creative director Nate Fox gave a presentation on the PS5 game \u201cGhost of Y\u014dtei.\u201d Jan-Bart van Beek and Jochen Willemsen from Guerrilla Games discussed how they created a family-friendly apocalypse with \u201cLego Horizon Adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Big ideas were discussed by a collection of award-winning panelists, including \u201cThe Future of Storytelling,\u201d for which our line-up of award-winning film directors was joined by Kris Pearn, director of \u201cThe Willoughbys,\u201d and Camille Balsamo-Gillis, co-founder of Pro Machina. Other panels included \u201cThe Future of Filmmaking,\u201d \u201cInnovation and Creativity at the Service of Audiovisual Production,\u201d \u201cWomen in Animation: VFX and Live Action,\u201d \u201cCinema 3: A New Era of Film,\u201d and \u201cBridging the Gap in VFX: Collaboration &amp; Innovation,\u201d presented in partnership with the Visual Effects Society.<\/p>\n<p>In-depth workshops included \u201cCreating the World of \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019\u201d with environment concept artist Kieran Belshaw; \u201cThe Purpose and Principles of Architecture\u201d with vrbn\u2019s Matt Buehler. A special highlight was an all-day walking workshop \u201cEvolve from Seeing to Vision, from Watching to Storytelling,\u201d where legendary photographer Asa Mathat took participants and their cameras out on the streets of Turin.<\/p>\n<p>Setting its sights on business and education, VIEW Conference 2025 introduced young talent to top-level professionals, in a series of sessions designed to help nurture the talent of the future. These included dedicated portfolio review sessions with experienced creative professionals, and panels such as \u201cInspiring the Next Generation \u2013 AI and Innovation Technologies in Education.\u201d Career development and project management was explored in talks such as \u201cIs VFX a Sustainable Business Model?\u201d and \u201cCreative Careers Unfiltered: Motivation, Mentorship and Meaningful Networking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe VIEW Conference 2025 program was more wide-ranging than any we have offered before,\u201d says Conference Director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. \u201cI offer my heartfelt thanks to our worldwide family of talented speakers, many of whom return year after year to help create the unique buzz that makes VIEW Conference an unforgettable experience for everyone.
